Land Surveying Party Chief

About K & D Engineering, Inc.

Founded in 1972, K & D Engineering is a small, close-knit civil engineering and land surveying firm based in Albany, Oregon. Our Survey Department specializes in boundary, topographic, construction staking, FEMA, ALTA/NSPS, and municipal surveys. Our Civil Engineering group provides site development, roadway, utility, and stormwater design for public and private clients. Together, we serve cities, counties, developers, and homeowners throughout the Willamette Valley. We pride ourselves on a family-oriented culture where every team member is respected and supported.

About the Role / Responsibilities

  • Supervising daily field operations and ensuring crew safety
  • Operating and maintaining Topcon total stations, GPS/RTK receivers, and data collectors
  • Performing control surveys, traverses, and level loops
  • Collecting accurate field data and maintaining clear, legible field notes
  • Communicating effectively with project managers, office staff, and clients
  • Training and mentoring junior crew members on equipment and procedures
  • Checking work for completeness and accuracy before demobilization
  • Complying with company safety policies and all applicable regulations

Requirements / What We're Looking For

  • Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of progressive land surveying experience, with at least 2 years as a Party Chief or crew lead
  • Technical skills: Proficiency with Topcon total stations and GNSS, Carlson Survey software, and/or familiarity with AutoCAD Civil3D
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of boundary law, easements, ALTA standards, and FEMA floodplain survey requirements; ability to read plats, maps, and construction plans
  • Physical ability: Capable of lifting 50+ lbs, walking long distances over rough terrain, and working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Credentials: Valid driver's license with clean record
  • Soft skills: Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills; detail-oriented and self-motivated
  • Preferred (not required): NSPS CST Level III certification or LSIT is a plus

  • Pay: Competitive hourly wage of $28–$35 per hour (based on experience) — DOE
